Understanding the problem
What is an ETP and how is it different from an STP?+
An STP treats domestic sewage. An ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) treats industrial wastewater — which carries chemicals, heavy metals, oil, dyes and high BOD/COD that need specialised treatment.
Is an ETP mandatory for my factory?+
Yes — any industry discharging effluent must comply with CPCB/SPCB norms. Operating without a CTO is a legal violation with shut-down risk.
